Acne General Info
Acne (acne vulgaris) is a condition that occurs when oil from sebaceous glands and dead skin cells clog the hair follicles. The face, chest, shoulders, and back are affected the most because of the high concentration of sebaceous glands (oil glands).
It was demonstrated that androgens and genetics (80% of cases) are the primary causes of severe acne. Severe acne is the eighth most common disease on the planet.
Accutane Pharmacokinetics
Isotretinoin has a similar chemical structure with retinoic acid and Vitamin A (retinol). It successfully inhibits the sebaceous gland functioning, which results in lower oil production in the skin and no acne development.
Accutane in Bodybuilding
Androgens and genetic predisposition (80% of cases) are the leading causes of acne. It was demonstrated that Androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum (oil). Also, it was noted that androgens not only make sebaceous glands hyperactive, they also increase the size of sebaceous glands over time.
Acne is one of the most common temporary side effects associated with steroid use. Athletes and bodybuilders widely use Accutane for steroid-induced acne. Accutane is considered the only effective drug that is capable of treating severe acne caused by AAS administration.
Accutane Administration Bodybuilding and Other Sports
The most common dosage used by bodybuilders is 10-20 mg/day for 6-8 weeks. In most cases, this dosage and cycle length is enough to treat steroid-induced acne.
Athletes with a genetic predisposition to acne are advised to repeat an Accutane cycle 2-3 times a year.
Administration Women
Accutane is not recommended to females that are planning pregnancy or pregnant. Please note that even a small dosage of Accutane could lead to severe complications with fetal development. It is strongly advised to use birth control medication while taking Accutane.
